There are countless examples of pest plants and insects and other animals that have been brought to this country from China - all via shipping of goods in containers. When taken out of their natural habitat, with natural predators, it can be devastating. A good question was asked by a friend - what have we shipped to them that has decimated some plant or crop of theirs?
"Bark scale originates from China and was brought to the U.S. in 2010. A&M has identified this pest as Eriococcus lagerstroemiae, and suspects that it was brought into the U.S. on a crape myrtle plant."
